Midnight Good & Evil

A few, well probably more than a few at this point but after a while everything is ‘a few’, years back I read over 100 books. I think this year will be somewhere in that category and while I will not chronicle all of them I will attempt to highlight a few of them. One I just finished is Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil by John Berendt. A non-fiction novel, I was mildly acquainted with it due to the Movie- though I had read or seen either. I’m glad that was the case because this ended up being fantastic.

The book follows a writer, Berendt himself plays quasi-inspiration, and tells the story of Jim Williams- a man charged with murder and tried four seperate times. Intertwined within are colorful characters, such as a man walking an invisible dog, a ragtag crew of local gossipers at the diner, alongside a bevy of truly stand out individuals, like the witch doctor Minerva, the transgender performer The Lady Chablis, and the charming lawyer Joe Odom.

Amazing read, and something I would suggest to those that haven’t.
